Transmission

Can enlightenment be transmitted directly to other people?

Consciousness is not susceptible to movement, location, ownership, or stewardship. It is not something; not even a subtle or metaphysical thing. So, it does not move from one person to another.

However, words, a look, or just the presence of a person can elicit Recognition or Insight in another person. That can certainly happen. The recognition can also happen from reading a book, watching a video, or totally out of the blue.

What is recognized is what is common among all individuals, and thus precludes the concept of transmission.

What is recognized is what we are, not anything we have. Not something that god, gods, saints, ascended masters, gurus, and “enlightened people” have and are out to dispense and transmit.

If somebody says they have consciousness they are either lying, confused, deluded or it was a mistranslation from a foreign language.

The personification, ownership, understanding, or control of Consciousness is imagination. That imagination causes copious amounts of unnecessary trouble in this and many other lifetimes. So, at some point, we go to teachers. If the teacher does his or her job, and the seeker is ripe, the imagination that enlightened people have something that you don’t is destroyed.

Nonduality, Advaita. The end of suffering.
